Turkish, Iranian foreign ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional issues at BRICS summit

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on Sunday on the margins of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, in a high-level diplomatic engagement focusing on bilateral ties and pressing regional issues.
According to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the two ministers discussed a range of topics, including developments in the Middle East, regional stability, and ongoing negotiations related to Iran’s nuclear program.
Minister Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to regional diplomacy, highlighting Ankara’s readiness to support peaceful initiatives aimed at defusing tensions and fostering constructive dialogue among neighboring countries.
“Türkiye remains committed to resolving regional disputes through diplomacy and dialogue,” Fidan said, according to diplomatic sources. “We fully support initiatives that promote stability, cooperation, and mutual understanding in our shared region.”
The meeting came amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly following the recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran and the broader fallout from conflicts in Gaza, Syria, and southern Lebanon. While no additional details were provided regarding the outcomes of the discussion, the meeting was seen as a reaffirmation of Ankara and Tehran's willingness to maintain open lines of communication and cooperation despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.
The encounter underscores Türkiye’s continued engagement in the region and its role as a diplomatic bridge between various actors involved in the Middle East’s evolving power dynamics. (ILKHA)
