Türkiye has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life caused by devastating flash floods and a landslide in the border region between Nepal and the People's Republic of China.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the governments and peoples of Nepal and China, whose citizens were among those affected by the disaster.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the flash floods and landslide,” the ministry said, referring to the disaster that struck the region on August 26.

Türkiye also expressed solidarity with the countries affected by the catastrophe, particularly Nepal and China, as search and rescue efforts continue in areas hit by the floods and landslides.

The Foreign Ministry said that, as of the latest information available to Turkish authorities, there had been no reports indicating that Turkish citizens were affected by the disaster.

The ministry added that the situation was being closely monitored and that Turkish authorities would continue to follow developments.

The statement comes as rescue and recovery operations continue across the mountainous border region, where the sudden flooding and landslides caused extensive damage and resulted in significant casualties and disappearances.

Türkiye's diplomatic response reflects Ankara's continued practice of expressing solidarity with countries affected by major natural disasters and maintaining close contact with local authorities when Turkish citizens could potentially be affected. (ILKHA)
