A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck the Gulf of Aden early Friday between Somalia and Yemen, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The shallow earthquake occurred at 12:07 a.m. local time (2107 GMT Thursday), with its epicenter located approximately 145 kilometers off the Somali coast, the USGS reported.
The earthquake occurred in waters separating the Horn of Africa from the Arabian Peninsula.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage following the quake. Authorities and monitoring agencies are expected to assess the situation and determine whether the tremor caused any effects along nearby coastal areas.
The Gulf of Aden is located in a seismically active region where the Arabian and African tectonic plates interact, making earthquakes a recurring natural hazard in the area. (ILKHA)
