Gaza death toll surges to 71,412 since October 2023
The humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen as health authorities confirmed that the death toll from Israel’s prolonged aggression has climbed to 71,412, while 171,314 Palestinians have been injured since October 2023.
The figures highlight the devastating human cost endured by Gaza’s besieged population, who remain trapped under constant threat, deprivation, and collapsing living conditions.
Medical sources reported on Sunday that hospitals received three new fatalities and nine wounded within the past 24 hours alone. However, they stressed that these numbers do not reflect the full scale of tragedy, as countless victims are still buried beneath rubble or lying in streets where rescue teams are unable to operate due to ongoing danger and destroyed infrastructure.
Authorities also revealed that since the ceasefire declared on October 11, 2025, at least 442 Palestinians have been killed and 1,236 wounded, while 688 bodies have been recovered from devastated areas—evidence that the suffering has not ended despite international claims of calm.
Amid relentless hardship, Gaza continues to endure severe humanitarian neglect. Health officials confirmed the heartbreaking death of a two-month-old infant, who succumbed to harsh winter cold due to a lack of adequate shelter and basic supplies. This brings the number of children who have died from freezing temperatures this winter to four, highlighting the inhumane conditions imposed on civilians.
Humanitarian organizations and medical staff continue to call on the international community to take meaningful action to protect civilians, ensure unrestricted entry of aid, and hold those responsible for Gaza’s suffering accountable. Meanwhile, families across the Strip continue to mourn loved ones lost to bombardment, starvation, disease, and now the bitter cold. (ILKHA)
