Afghanistan signs $2.8 million contract for Amu Darya oil field services
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed a one-year contract worth $2.8 million with TNG, a company based in Russia’s Tatarstan region, to provide supervisory and consulting services at the Amu Darya oil field.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening technical oversight and professional management of operations at the strategically important oil field, as Afghanistan continues efforts to expand domestic energy production and develop its natural resources.
In a separate development, the ministry announced that the first phase of the design and construction of an oil processing and production facility at the Emerald Sai Block is expected to cost approximately $11 million.
Once completed and operational, the facility is projected to process up to 2,000 tons of crude oil per day, marking another step toward expanding Afghanistan’s oil-processing capacity and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products.
The projects form part of Afghanistan’s broader efforts to develop its domestic mining and energy sector, attract investment and increase the economic value generated from the country’s natural resources.
Officials have increasingly emphasized the development of Afghanistan’s oil and gas resources as a means of supporting economic growth, creating employment opportunities and strengthening domestic energy security. (ILKHA)
